Meng Qi, a second year MA Museum Studies student at Syracuse University, participated in an internship at the Xinyang City Museum in China during the summer of 2012. A native of Xinyang City in Henan Province, Meng Qi has resided in Syracuse, NY while completing her first year of the two year degree. After completing her undergraduate career at the Bohai University in
Northwestern China, in Chinese language and literature, more specifically the ancient Chinese language, she was drawn to the United States and Syracuse for its renowned program. When asked why she chose Syracuse University, she replied, “the museum studies program at Syracuse offers practical learning to develop the skills actually used in museums. Most museum studies programs are heavily focused on the art and theoretical discussions instead of real time skills”. Her future career goals are to travel back to China and ultimately work in the Xinyang City Museum. There, she would like to work in the Exhibition Design Department or with the curators.
Meng Qi enjoys Syracuse and all it has to offer. She enjoys shopping at the USA Carousel Mall and seeing the latest Sci-Fi movies out in theaters. She is also in the process of learning how to drive and planning her wedding which is scheduled for September 2014!
